sbs500

EML’s SBS500 rain gauge utilizes the proven aerodynamic shape of the ARG100 and takes it to the next level. The aerodynamic design of the SBS500 minimizes airflow disruption, thereby reducing the risk of under measurement. The SBS500 is meant for more temperate climates where greater funnel-size provides superior aerial coverage in low to medium rainfall intensities.

The SBS is the result of over three years extensive fieldwork carried out by the renowned Dr. Ian Strangeways (TerraData) to determine the most effective design of precipitation sensor for accurate rainfall measurement in all climatic conditions, irrespective of wind speed and type of precipitation e.g. drizzle or heavy, convective or tropical rain. The unique design and aerodynamic shape of the SBS rain gauge increases measurement accuracy and precision by capturing more rainfall than traditionally shaped cylindrical gauges, minimizing out-splash and reducing rainfall losses caused by evaporation.

The funnel of the gauge is made from 2.5mm thick powder coated aluminum while the base is manufactured in LM6 marine grade aluminum. The gauge can therefore be installed in extremely hostile conditions. If you value accuracy and require longevity and durability, the SBS500 is the precipitation sensor for you - just ask the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) who have installed 300 SBSs in their sensor networks!
