What are CDMs, and what do they do?

CDM refers to Campbell Distributed Module. A CDM expands the measurement capability of a data logger by adding additional channels, controls, or measurement types.
How are CDMs (Campbell Distributed Modules) and SDMs (Synchronous Devices for Measurement) different?

Compared to SDM devices, CDM devices can operate at much higher speeds and with cable lengths that are much longer.
