Overview

Kipp & Zonen's SMP3 is a smart pyranometer with low maintenance and industry standard digital and analogue amplified outputs. Based on the proven CMP 3 technology the SMP3 adds Modbus® interface, improved response time and temperature corrected measurement data. The wide and low power supply range from 5 to 30 VDC makes integration in meteorological stations easy.

The SMP is protected against over voltage, reversed polarity and short circuiting. Because all SMP’s have identical sensitivity and connections exchanging instruments during recalibration is easy. SMP3 measures global solar radiation on a horizontal plane. When tilted with the same angle as a PV panel it measures the tilted global radiation, for PV module efficiency calculations.

PC Software for data logging, display of data and MODBUS® address setting is provided.

Compatibility

Mounting

The SMP3 includes a bubble level and adjusting leveling screws, which allow the sensor to be leveled without using a leveling base. The 015 Mounting Arm can be used to mount the sensor to a mast or the CM225 Solar Sensor Mounting Stand can be used to attach the sensor to a mast, crossarm, or pole (1.0-in. to 2.1-in. outer diameter). The CM225 consists of rectangular plate, mounting bracket, U-bolts, lock washers, and nuts.

Alternatively, the CM245 Adjustable Angle Mounting Stand may be used. It includes slots that can be adjusted to any angle from horizontal to vertical. The L27084 can also be used to mount a pyranometer housed inside of the CVF4 heater/ventilator.

Interface

In order to make use of the RS485 Modbus output the MD485 interface is required.
