Hydrolab Software and Drivers
How to upgrade the Surveyor 4
What you need:
- Your computer
- Your Surveyor 4
- The Surveyor 4 to PC interface cable (P/N H013150)
- The new software file
- Connect your Surveyor 4 to your computer via the Surveyor 4 to PC interface cable, turn your
computer on. After the boot up process is complete, insert the diskette and copy the new
software file to your computer's hard drive. Launch your favorite communications program. For
this example, we are using ProComm Plus for DOS: at the C:\ prompt, type "pcplus" and press
"ENTER" twice). If you are using another communications program, follow your software
prompts;
Note: If you are using ProComm Plus for DOS, you need to setup your software so that
the "Abort xfer if CD lost" is set on "NO". To do so from ProComm Plus,
press "Alt"+"S" for Setup, then move the cursor down to "Protocol"
and press "ENTER", then move to "General Options" and press
"ENTER", choose "C" and make sure that "NO" is selected. Press
"Esc" twice and move the cursor to "Save Setup Options" and press
"ENTER" to save the changes and avoid repeating the procedure when you launch
ProComm Plus again.
- Turn your Surveyor 4 on.
- Using the blue rectangular keys on your Surveyor 4 front panel, press the "Setup/Cal"
key, then press the "Setup" key.
- Using the blue triangular up or down keys on your Surveyor 4 front panel, move the cursor
(dark gray area on "Display:Tabular") to "Download:Software" at the bottom
of the screen, and press "Select".
- You are prompted for a security password. The default password is "HYDROLAB". If the
password was changed, see your organization for new password assignment. Using your Surveyor 4
triangular keys (to move the cursor to the appropriate letter or character) and rectangular keys
(to "Select" the letter or "Backspace" if you make a mistake), enter the
password and then press "Done".
- Follow the instructions on the Surveyor 4 screen, explained below:
A). "Switch to 19200 baud @ 8N1": If your communications program is not set to 19200
baud, 8 bits, No parity, and 1 stop bit (19200 N81 at the bottom of your computer screen),
configure your terminal accordingly, then press any key on your Surveyor 4, as instructed. Your
computer screen will display a message to tell you it is ready for transfer;
B). "Execute XMODEM-1K": To send the new software file, press the "PgUp" key
on your computer keyboard (DO NOT PRESS PgDn!) and select "1K-XMODEM" and press
"ENTER". Enter the file name (make sure you enter the correct hard drive path
depending where your file is located, such as: C:\"(File name)") and press
"ENTER". The transfer process should be taking place . If you get a
"BAD BLOCK" message, you should repeat steps 3, 4, 5, and the "Execute
XMODEM-1K" procedure in this paragraph a little faster, now that you know how to do it.
Note: If you get too many "BAD BLOCK" errors, refer to your ProComm Plus
manual under technical support. If you still cannot send the file,
contact Campbell Scientific.
- To make sure that the new software was successfully transferred, press the Hydrolab logo on the
Surveyor 4 front panel, "SW Rev" should display the new version number.
Your Surveyor 4 is now up-to-date and ready for operation.
