General Description

The SC32A Optically Isolated Interface is required for direct communication between a CR510, CR500, CR10(X), 21X, or CR7 datalogger and the serial port of a computer. (The CR23X and CR5000 do not require an SC32A.) The SC32A isolates the computer's electrical system from the datalogger's, thereby protecting against ground loop, normal static discharge, and noise. The SC32A also converts the computer's RS-232 voltage levels to the CMOS levels of the datalogger.

The datalogger is connected to the SC32A via the SC12 ribbon cable (provided); for heavier duty use, an SC12R cable is recommended. A standard DB9 to DB25 serial cable, CSC model L7026 or equivalent, is required to connect the SC32A to the 9-pin serial port of a computer. A DB25 to DB25 cable or equivalent, CSC model C1368, is required for a computer with a 25-pin serial port. For IBM® PC or compatible computers, Campbell Scientific's PC208W Datalogger Support Software facilitates data retrieval, datalogger program upload/download, remote monitoring, and real-time graphical display of data.
