General Description

The GMON3 measures and reports the snow water equivalent (SWE) by measuring the absorption of natural ground gamma emissions* through the snow cover. The measurement area of the GMON3 is 50-100 square meters and is an excellent replacement sensor for the traditional snow pillow. The sensor is powered using 12VDC and can be easily interfaced to a datalogger; with the addition of a wireless communication option SWE values can be transmitted in real-time from remote sites.

*The GMON3 only monitors existing naturally occurring Gamma radiation. No special licenses or precautions are required to install or operate the GMON3.
